We’re delighted to congratulate Francis (Franky) Stankiewicz, who was recently promoted to Director of Chronicle Heritage’s Underwater Archaeology Program! Francis has been a vital asset to Chronicle Heritage’s projects and initiatives involving underwater archaeology, including expanding the program’s scope and our team of fully-qualified personnel. As Director, Francis will handle oversight of the team, managing daily operations while continuing to further expand the program.
Francis’s well-deserved promotion goes hand in hand with the partial retirement of prior Director Stephen James, who developed in 1991 what would become the premier underwater archaeology program in the United States for PanAmerican Consultants, now part of Chronicle. His 40-year career includes documenting and recovering the Civil War ironclad-ram CSS Georgia and multiple shipwrecks and aircraft associated with World War II, the Spanish-American War, and the California Gold Rush.
We’re excited to see Francis make his mark on Chronicle’s Underwater Archaeology program and remain deeply indebted to Stephen for the incredible groundwork he leaves behind.
Congratulations to you both!
